STYROFOAM SHELTER BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR FERAL/COMMUNITY CATS

What?
Styrofoam shelter building workshop for feral/community cats. Supplies are limited and there may only be enough for 1 shelter per attendee. Shelters fit from 1 cat to 3 small cats on configuration. Let us know how many you’re trying to shelter per shelter.

 

When?
2019 Shelter Building dates: August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10, December 8

2020 Shelter Building dates: January 12, February 9, March 8, August 9, September 13, October 11, November 8 and December 13.

Walk in 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Plan on one hour per shelter. Registration is required. Please note there is not enough time to attend both the TNR class and make a shelter on the same day.

How do I register?
Registration is needed as supplies and space are limited. To register; please email tnr@allaboutanimalsrescue.org and let us know your name, phone number, address and how many cats you’re trying to shelter. There may only be enough supplies to make one shelter. Please reference the Shelter Building workshop in your email.

 

Shelter Workshop Fee:
FREE if you bring your own tape and make your shelter. You need a roll of foil backed Nashua tape (available at Home Depot). A limited number of tape rolls will be available for $10 each. All other supplies are provided.

Please note that supplies to build a complete shelter are limited to what we have on hand.

 

VOLUNTEER BUILDERS WELCOME!
Don’t need the shelters for cats you’re working with? Come build and leave them at the rescue! There is no charge for tape when building shelters for the rescue. If you are coming to volunteer, please do still register and indicate you’re volunteering. Please alert the coordinator when you arrive that you are there as a volunteer to build shelters for the rescue.

Hey, if your cats aren’t fixed yet, make sure you make that a priority too! You can learn how by coming to a TNR class. TNR classes are held the second Sunday of the Month. 11:30 am to 2:30 pm (first Sunday of the month in May).

WINTER SHELTER BUILDING SUPPLIES WISH LIST:

Nashua multi-purpose aluminum foil tape (available at Home Depot in the dryer duct section for $8 a roll; Model # 3220020500, Home Depot Store SKU # 915245)

•Large styrofoam cooler boxes – Just like fish shipment boxes or used for medicines to be shipped to hospitals. Check with your large chain pet shops, grocery stores, veterinary hospitals and human hospitals. Interior measurements of coolers should be an absolute minimum of 14 inches high, 18 inches wide and 2 inch thick. The thicker the better. Preferred is 18 inches high and 20 to 22 inches wide.

• Straw (not hay. Dry straw that hasn’t been wet before)

Reflectix mylar insulation – Found at Lowes/Home Depot in the insulation department. ($24)
